Yeah of course. There is no possible way, in the entire universe, that this could be the only planet that life evolved on. And I think it's incredibly arrogant to thnk that we are the only intelligent life out there.
I don't think that we should fear them though, even if they are more technologicially advanced than we are. I really don't think that we are important enough to be worthy of the attentions of any more advanced race. Be it benign or hostile.
The only thing that annoys the crap out of me is that scientists are so damn stuck on trying to find carbon based life, like us. As possible as that kind of life may be, there are too many other different kinds of planets out there that life could have evolved on. Aside from the fact that even on our own planet in the most inhospitiable places, for us, life still finds a way.
